MAY 8 is the Feast of OUR LADY OF THE STAR

LIVING OUR LASALLIAN TRADITION
“Rejoice O highly favored daughter, the Lord is with you.” Luke 1: 28

QUEEN MOTHER and PATRON of the UNIVERSAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS.

The origin of the shrine of Our Lady of the Star in Montebourg, Normandy, France is not known. A Benedictine monastery and the shrine were founded there in the eleventh century and remained there until it was destroyed during the French Revolution at the end of the eighteenth century. It was rebuilt by the Brothers of the Christian Schools of Mercy who followed the rule of St. John Baptist de La Salle and in 1938 were incorporated into the Lasallian Brothers.

A CALL FOR SOLIDARITY!

As a global community, UMAEL seeks to recognize how the Animo is lived out in different parts of the world and share this with the rest of the Lasallian family. We have found that one of the many places where the Animo fire burns bright is with the Lasallian Volunteers of Cameroon (LVC). In the past decade, they have dedicated their efforts in servicing the communities of Mbalmayo in the Republic of Cameroon and Kelo in the Republic of Chad. True to the Lasallian mission, they have committed to provide education to those children in need. This year alone, they have brought the gift of education to 164 children in the communities. Aside from an academic education, employable youth also receive practical job skills in electronics, computer and accounting. Recently, their services have even been extended to adults willing to find a job or return to a normal academic curriculum. The Lasallian Volunteers generously provide professional training as well as job placement.
